Dear Colonel Kay,
Re: "ROSARY HILL" RED CROSS HOME
43, STUBBS ROAD,HONGKONG
When this Delegation rented from the Spanish Dominican Fathers what was currently called the "Rosary Hill" Red Cross Home, including a large quantity of furniture and Fittings, it was agreed that after the relinquishment of the Home, and the return of the Furniture and Fittings to the Spanish Fathers, any damage to the Home, and any shortage of, or damage to, the Furniture and Fittings, would be made good.
As this Delegation was operating the "Rosary Hill" Home for British account, and with British Funds, the cost of any eventual repairs and replacements was to be for British account.
With the handing over of the Home to the British Authorities in October 1945, and the suspension of remittances of British Funds to this Delegation since last Autumn, we suggested to our Geneva Committee some time ago that contingent liabilities of the nature mentioned above should be taken over by the British Authorities. The reply to our suggestion has not yet come to hand, but in view of the closing-down of this Delegation on the 31st instant, and the imminent departure for Europe of the Writer, we wish to put on record the nature of outstanding liabilities, which we undertook for British account. There has been a good deal of breakage of Wash-Basins in the rooms, and various other damage to Fittings. Most of the rooms needed white-washing when the British Authorities took the Home over, in October 1945, but some of them have apparently been white-washed in the meantime.
As regards the Furniture, we attach a list showing what has been rented from the Spanish Fathers, and what was still available when an Inventory was taken in November 1945.
